X Factor 2011: the 16 finalists will appear in Marks & Spencer’s Christmas advertisements singing When You Wish Upon a Star!
We love the Marks & Spencer Christmas campaign. Along with the Coca Cola ads they really make you feel festive. They are filled with sparkles and cosiness. This year the British high street giant is taking a different approach and abandoning the well known faces that we usually see in the Christmas campaign for some unknown X Factor contestants.
M&S are renowned for their Christmas ads, which for a few years now have featured the likes of Twiggy and Dannii Minogue. Now the British retail giant has commissioned the 16 finalists to front their ads. We do not know the name of the 16 but our sister site UnrealityTV have some predictions and their predictions are usually based on hard evidence and usually right!
The finalists will record a version of the Disney songĀ When You Wish Upon A Star.
It is a very smart move for Marks & Spencer as they aim to try to move into a younger market. The first advert will be unveiled in breaks between the show on a Saturday night. The talent show has the perfect, young, female target audience for Marks and is watched by up to 12 million people.
All of the acts will wear M&S clothes, obviously, they are also the official fashion partner of the show. We feel sorry for the poor contestants who will only receive a nominal fee for their appearance in the campaign.
Recently Marks & Spencer dropped a number of their high profile celebrity models, including Dannii Minogue, Lisa Snowden, Tiggy and Elizabeth Jagger. Some of them will remain modelling on billboards but the focus of their television advertising has changed.
Among the new models is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The British model and Transformers actress is starring in the retailer’s most recent campaign and shows a new generation of glamour for the shop that was traditionally somewhere our mothers would have went.
