Royal Wedding hats: the worst princess Beatrice the best Zara Phillips
We know that between weddings and Ascot there are always girls that will go crazy over ‘occasion hats’. At StyleJacking we are firm believers that hats win hands down over fascinators at weddings but that doesn’t mean that hats always look good.
Below we give you the low down on the millinery fashions at the Royal Wedding today.
First of all we have Victoria Beckham in a Phillip Treacy creation – a pillbox hat. It was very flattering on the pregnant Ms Beckham. The hat was perfect for the simple lines and silhouette of the dress she wore from her own Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.

Victoria Beckham may have impressed us but it was another Phillip Treacy hat that we loved – the one worn by Zara Phillips. It was black side hat which was heavily embellished with a woven floral arrangement. The reason we loved this hat was that it perfectly complimented her plain silver dress coat. It was quite embellished which seemed perfect for the plain dress.
We then go from the sublime to the ridiculous – Tara Palmer Tomkinson and her royal blue Cornish pasty hat. This was again a Philip Treacy design and was matched perfectly to her off-the-shoulder dress. The dress, gloves and bag were lovely but the hat was a strange creation that balanced on TPT’s forehead, perhaps to cover her cocaine ravaged nose?
Sophie Winkleman, actress from Peep Show and wife of Freddie Windsor son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent chose a much more elegant and impressive headgear than Tara. Ok it might have reminded us of a flying saucer but it perfectly complimented the monochrome dress.
One guest at the wedding that really caught our eye was the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg Miriam Gonzalez Durantez. She wore a silver dress with spotted mesh overlay and a dramatic turban hat with a huge corsage. This was a dramatic ensemble which perfectly reflected Miriam’s Latin roots. Miriam wore Miguel Palacia and her hat was by milliner Conchitta.
The Queen looked cute in a Angela Kelly primrose yellow hat with an Angela Kelly yellow wool crepe suit. It was very ‘grandmother of the bride’.
The worst looks of the day were sisters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. They both wore Phillip Treacy hats. Eugenie wore a hat that looked like a door knocker while her sister could have been in a violent argument with a peacock! They really did not look good. Is this Phillip Treacy guy having a laugh at their expense ? In which case, well done mate. Looks like a competition to find the biggest twat in the universe. I imagine in P Eugenie’s case it’s a vain attempt to draw attention from her face, let’s face it love, it doesn’t work. Either that or she was trying to tune in to Sky Sports?
“her sister could have been in a violent argument with a peacock” haha LOL laughed so hard at that! HILARIOUS ;D
Agreed! Eugenie’s was by far the worst hat there and loved Zaras!
I was surprised by Queen Margrethe, wearing the exact same hat and coat she wore to her grandchildrens christening not that long ago!
