Cheryl Cole shows off her new blonde bob in white Stella McCartney dress for her birthday (PHOTOS)

Yesterday was Cheryl Cole’s 28th birthday and the Girls Aloud singer celebrated in style. Surprisingly, on the guest list was N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos. Tulisa took over from Cheryl on the British X Factor but there are obviously no hard feelings!

Other guests included the Black Eyed Peas and Cheryl’s bandmates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts.

Cheryl has been in hibernation since she was sacked from her judge’s role on the US X-Factor. This week she came out of hiding and cut and dyed her hair.

For her party Cheryl wore a white 60s style smock dress with circular discs with heeled sandals. The dress was a little boring and not very flattering on Cheryl. It just sort of hung there – although she did look amazing as usual. The dress was from Stella McCartney’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.

Tulisa wore an asymmetrical black sparkly dress which showed off her long pins.

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie looked decidedly boring in black and gold. She arrived at the party after performing at the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park.

Our favourite dress though was worn by Nicola Roberts. Describe it on paper ‘a multi-coloured crochet maxi dress’ and it doesn’t sound like much but it was quite stunning in a very understated, elegant way. 25-year-old Nicola rushed down from Glasgow to attend the party.

Kimberley also wore a short white wrap dress which she accessorised with a gold clutch bag and gold strappy sandals. Kimberley has spent the week defending her friend Cheryl and telling the world’s media to back off!

Cheryl revealed her new hair on a trip to the American embassy in London this week to pick up a visa. The visa was applied for when Cheryl was working on the X Factor. Obviously she doesn’t need it anymore but it will still allow her to try to ‘crack America’. Good luch with that!

Nadine Coyle did not attend the bash but wished Cole happy birthday via Twitter.

The birthday celebrations kicked off on Thursday (Cheryl’s actual birthday) with a private party in the £2,700-a-night penthouse suite at London’s Sanderson hotel. The party was also at the Sanderson at the cost of £40,000.
